Most Wonderful Time

Have you seen our tree?? Stop by and help us decorate it! (We supply the pipe cleaners and pine cones).

Eric Nassau is our friend.

Our favorite folk troubadour from Ohio stopped by Sunday night to sing about sugar-coated sugar and things like that. He is pictured below with his hat-maker, Lea.

Where are the monkey hats?

If you borrowed one or both, please return. No questions asked.

Thanksgiving Hours

We'll be open from 8am-12pm on Thanksgiving Day so you can fuel up for a day of eating and napping.

Adventures in Gardening

Today Kate and I laid to rest the final remnants of Paradigm's inaugural garden. "Garden Experiment 2008" taught us many important lessons, namely the importance of a staggered planting schedule. We plan on hitting the ground running next spring to bring you even more locally grown, organic produce for our menu items.

In the meantime, we're looking forward to a winter full of Sarafina's Soups:)

The Craft Fair is Coming...

We're excited to announce Paradigm's first craft fair extravaganza! In accordance with our commitment to keeping it local, The Local Yokel Yuletide Craft Fair will take place here in the shop on Sunday, December 21 from 10am-6pm. The list of exhibitors is being finalized, but we can guarantee unique, handmade items for your last-minute shopping pleasure.

Stay tuned...

Last Night, Tonight

If you weren't here last night, well, sucks to be you.

Molly Venter amazed us with her powerful voice and original, personal songwriting. A heckler with a harmonica approved.

And if you missed last night (or even if you were here), you should definitely make it out tonight to see one of Milwaukee's best, Pezzettino. I can guarantee it will be worth braving the cold.

Shows. SHOWS. SHOOOOOWS!!!

A little re-cap of the week's music is in order...

Chelsea Z kicked off our fine Thursday night with a few angsty acoustic guitar ridden folk rock ballads about airports, Australia, love/hate... and confusion... a few interjections about wool sweaters... empathy engulfed the crowd... and she wins us over again.

Steph Taylor and the State of fired up around 9 that night... there could have been lights and a smoke machine... the tickets COULD have been $30.00... but there wasn't... and it was FREE...

"bone chillingly awesome" Said one.

"oh my god! this is so amazing" Said another - mid show.

"Why didn't we charge a cover?" Said the barista.

Steph Taylor and the State of will be back. Don't miss it.

Cataldo played here Friday for the first time ever... but why do we know all of their songs so well...? Because we haven't taken the CD out of the rotation since the day it arrived! Think... indie-campfire-folk-rock... better yet... click the link and listen... then keep an eye on our schedule for the next time they come our way.

Stay tuned by simply visiting: Paradigm Coffee and Music for a full listing of our shows.

Starbucks is to Paradigm as to Walmart is to...

I haven't felt such disappointment in this city since the day I went to the city clerk's office with my papers and check in-hand to acquire an application for a beer and wine license; was met with the statement "Even if we were to grant you a license, it would be ripped out of your little hands in six months due to violations."

Today. The Reader's Choice Awards were posted in the Sheboygan Press. As a business owner I look forward to the competition and the 'audience participation' of the event. Knowing that we weren't in the winning spot for the best cup of coffee, I expected to see our sincerely respected predecessor... The Weather Center or maybe my former employer Z Spot.

What I saw was Starbucks; A corporate giant. Three have opened in our city of barely 60,000 in the past three years. By no means will I deny that their existence has made our need for a gourmet cup of coffee a commodity. They've come a long way from their humble beginnings... they've moved from the neighborhood hot-spot brimming with warmth, character, quality and consciousness to McDonald's answer to the local drive-in. Factory. Sterile. Corporate.

What happened to the appreciation for "Family owned and Operated"? What part of McDonalds (won best french fries) is 'Sheboygan'... a truck pulls up to the back door and unloads boxes of prepared(cut, sprayed with beef stock) and frozen potatoes... from... Factory X in... ?

One of my favorite customers just said it right: "We vote with our wallet."

Thank you to all the folks out there who think twice about where they will spend their buck. We whole heartedly appreciate every one of you.

Sunburns are healing and life is good... You may have noticed that Mondays are void of Paradigm goodness... but don't dispair... those precious hours are time well spent at Paradigm's very own vegetable garden... we're growing ALL of our own produce this year... granted... we're a little behind in the season due to the rains and more rain... it thinned our crops a bit but what's there is wonderful and we keep planting and weeding and weeding and weeding... and then we eat ice cream and life is good.

Get There by bike.

You might have noticed the pile of bikes by our back door. You might be one of the folks that asked... 'What's up with all the bikes?'

Well... we ride them... some are in need of a little work... from last season's midnight rides and whiskey runs... but they're all claimed... and have a claim to fame.

Its true that my first inkling to run something of my own... was born of the Northeast corner of the 'little barn' ... bike frames and chain-less ten speeds strung up in the coolest fashion... crates of parts on rickety storage racks... it housed my phases of the sweetest patched up bikes to whimsical wind chimes of spokes and sprockets... I've yet to stray too far from my original ideals of the sweetest thing... the hours of ... wouldn't it be sweet if...

SWEET

My body aches this morning... I've been hoe-ing... ha ha ha... in the garden.

We planted just before the rains... things have taken to a new growing pattern... not necessarily better... but things are growing... so it needs a hoe-ing.

Soon Paradigm will be basking in the freshest of fresh produce... grown by us... its the sweetest thing. Really.

I'll post pictures of Paradigm's garden soon!
